Reports To: The Scientific Laboratory Officer / Lab Coordinator will report to the Scientific Director and the Managing Director.

Job Overview: The Scientific Laboratory Officer / Lab Coordinator will provide all the required support to enable the Institute’s laboratories to function effectively. He / She will be involved in a variety of laboratory-based biological, chemical, etc. procedures. Adhering to correct procedures and health and safety guidelines is essential. The Scientific Laboratory Officer / Lab Coordinator will assist in the advancement and development of modern science in the field of cancer research. He / She will play an important role in the foundation stages of research and development (R&D) and in scientific analysis and investigation. The Scientific Laboratory Officer / Lab Coordinator will be supporting the Institute’s management and the Research teams with the primary goal of optimizing lab procedures and succeeding in producing reliable results.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Responsible for monitoring standard laboratory equipment, for example but not limited to, centrifuges, pipetting machines, microscopes, freezers, autoclaves, LN2 and CO2 supply etc.
  • Follow and ensure strict safety procedures/ guidelines and safety checks.
  • In collaboration with the vendors and following adequate training, maintain or calibrate and operate standard laboratory equipment.
  • Keep equipment in a clean and serviceable condition by cleaning, sterilizing, maintaining, and calibrating laboratory equipment.
  • Ensure the safe removal of laboratory waste (i.e. biological/chemical waste).
  • Ensure the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced and that everything is clearly and correctly labelled.
  • Assist in ordering and maintaining laboratory equipment, supplies and resources.
  • Organize and store all chemicals substances, fluids, and compressed gases according to safety instructions.
  • Maintain records of laboratory processes and equipment and generate reports to submit to the relevant senior manager.
  • Carry out routine technical tasks and experiments using core facilities equipment, when needed.
  • Maintaining daily logs and equipment record books.

Qualifications:

Education level:

  • University degree in the fields of biology, chemistry, engineering, health sciences, medical technology, or any other related field.
  • Master’s Degree in the fields of biology, chemistry, life sciences, medical technology, or any other related field.

Experience:

  • At least 5 years’ experience as Laboratory technician / assistant / officer etc.
  • Experience in operating electrical and nonelectrical laboratory equipment and potentially dangerous substances (flammable liquids, infectious bacteria, biohazards etc.) will be considered as an advantage.
  • Knowledge of QHSE Systems, preventative measures and laboratory best practices will be considered a strong advantage.

Fluency in English and Greek is essential.

Employment Type: Permanent, Full time

Remuneration:
The approved salary scale for the position is A8 – A10 – A11.
The placement of the successful candidate will be on the first step of A8 scale (the basic annual gross salary of the position (including 13th salary) amounts to € 23.885 (A8/1st – 10%))
Any general increases and indexation allowance of the same amount and under the same conditions, as in the case of employees in the Public Sector are added to the basic salary of the position.
